The Lepcha community of Kalimpong, demanding restoration of peace across the hills, launched an agitation on 29th August. Around 250 Lepchas gathered at Thana Dara under the banner of Hill People and demanded for restoration of peace in the hills. The demonstration was attended by several Lepcha community members who had come from several parts of town.
They appealed to all political parties to maintain peace. Nima Lepcha, who led the agitation, said people in the Hills are living in fear and alleged both the GJM and GJAC have taking forward their agitation without seeking public opinion.
