Kalimpong : Consumers had to face a lot of trouble today after BSNL casual workers forcibly closed down the operator’s offices here without any warning.
The closure of both the consumer service centre and main block of BSNL Kalimpong that began at 11 am this morning also troubled government officials as they had to wait outside in the hope of the strike getting withdrawn.
The BSNL’s Kalimpong office had been operating normally till Tuesday and the sudden shutdown took everyone aback. The casual workers who had locked themselves up inside the two blocks even declined to talk to reporters who were present to investigate.
Instead of confiding their issues with the media, the striking workers said media coverage would only malign them further.
The abrupt suspension of work paralysed BSNL broadband and telecommunication services in town. With town residents already dissatisfied with the poor quality of internet service by BSNL, the casual workers’ strike has only deepened the resentment of consumers.
