Bimal Gurung's official facebook page came up with the following update when the Telengana Bill was passed in the Lok Sabha on 18th Feb 2014. "The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha extends heartiest congratulations to the people of Telangana as the bill for creation of a separate state of Telangana has been passed in the Lok Sabha. The GJM would now request the Centre to similarly consider the just and fair demand for separate state of Gorkhaland, which is amongst the oldest in the country.
Today's passage of the Telengana bill makes it clear that state consent is not necessary for its bifurcation, a fact which we have been reiterating for a long time.
Those opposing creation of smaller states have wrongly argued that such consent from state assembly is required before rearranging its boundary.
We, are, confident that the Centre will sooner than later respect the sentiments of the Gorkhaland area and will take an unilateral decision on creating Gorkhaland despite protest from the rest of Bengal. Creation of a separate state of Gorkhaland along the lines of Telengana will fulfil the long standing demand of the people of Darjeeling, Dooars and surrounding Terai regions and bring justice to the Indian Gorkhas.
Congratulations to both the Congress and the BJP for respecting sentiments of Telengana people and supporting the bill."
