Habong Peying, the North East in-charge of the Aam Admi Party, has accused both Chief Minister Pawan Chamling and Opposition leader PS Golay of being corrupt. Peying, a former Information Commissioner from Arunachal Pradesh, is in Gangtok to officially launch the AAP in Sikkim with the objective of giving the people a corruption-free government.
“PS Golay’s cries for eradication of corruption from the state are futile as he himself is sunk in corruption,” said Peying. “He has remained a part of the corrupt government headed by the chief minister. How can he make Sikkim corruption free when he himself is drowning deep in corruption?” The AAP leader today formed an eight-member ad-hoc committee and it has been assigned to galvanise the ‘aam admi’ of the state to support the AAP for expanding participatory democracy in the state. Addressing a press conference later, Peying said: “Sikkim is being governed by the SDF-led government for the past 20 years, but the common man here is not happy as there has been no real development and only rampant corruption.”
Peying added: “The AAP is the only alternative to the Sikkim Democratic Front to make the state corruption-free and usher in participatory democracy.” He informed the AAP will contest both the State Assembly and Lok Sabha elections in the state. The eight-member committee consists of leaders from the Sikkim Liberation People’s Party (SLPP) that is now defunct. Former SLPP leader Kaushal Rai, now the AAP’s state coordinator, said: “As our ideologies and views are similar to those of the AAP, we decided to dissolve the SLPP and enter the AAP fold.”
