A day after the GJM-TMC clash in Kalimpong, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president Bimal Gurung alleged that some hill TMC workers are indulging in hooliganism and creating terror in the hills. Speaking on Thursday at the foundation stone laying function for a super-specialty hospital at the INS Bus Terminus in Kurseong, Gurung said while he is focused on development works for the common good, some quarters are bent on maligning the cordial relationship between the people and the GJM.
He alleged some hill TMC activists are engaging in ‘goondagiri’ and said, “They (TMC) are extorting money from businessmen and contractors. They are threatening people using various means, mostly by putting fear of the police.”
The GTA chief further claimed, “The TMC is also threatening our supporters and framing them under false cases with help of the police. They are using the police administration to carry out their hooliganism.”
According to Gurung, the state TMC leadership should bar its hills unit from extorting money and threatening people. He also said some local TMC cadres are trying to disrupt the good relations the GJM has with the ruling party.
Issuing a threat to abandon all development works under the GTA, the GJM chief said, “If this trend continues, I will have no choice but to leave everything and step out into the field.”
In the meantime, hill TMC general secretary NB Khawas rubbished Gurung’s allegations and quipped, “A jaundiced person sees others as jaundiced and nothing else.”
