Hill TMC meeting on party’s stance on the LS elections in Kalimpong

Hill Trinamool Congress today held an important meeting in Kalimpong to prepare its strategy for the upcoming general elections. Top leaders including Rajen Mukhia, Appa Rajen, Pravin Rahapal, Gopal Chettri and Nanita Gautam among others held rigorous discussions to finalize the party’s stance on the LS elections.

The meeting today also came up as a move to build up internal understanding among the leaders prior to the Hills visit by TMC general secretary Mukul Roy. It may be mentioned here Roy will visit Kalimpong on February 12 to meet the party’s regional leaders and workers. 

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, the Hill TMC general secretary Pravin Rhapal confirmed Roy will be present in the workers’ meeting on February 12, which will be held at the Town Hall here. Discussions about party’s LS candidate from Darjeeling constituency will be discussed in the meeting along with other party affairs.  Rahapal also expressed discontent with the party saying, “Many things that we had agreed upon when we entered the party are still not being followed properly. We will place our dissatisfaction before the prominent leader (Roy) of the party," he added.

Rahapal rubbished the reports stating Mukul Roy, Bhupendra Lepcha and Tenzing Sherpa’s son are being considered as probable TMC candidates from Darjeeling. Maintaining that the Hill TMC will follow the high command’s decision on selection of the candidate. However, Rahapal stated the Hill TMC is resolute that the candidate should be a son-of-the-soil.

 “We will accept the decision of the party’s but our demand is that the candidate should be a native. We will take up the matter with Mukul Roy on his visit to Kalimpong” Rahapal observed.
