The SDF’s women’s wing had organised a meeting-cum-rally in Turuk and when the convoy carrying supporters was heading towards the meeting venue, some SKM supporters reportedly intimated them. This led to a clash with the two sides hurling stones at one another. In the ensuing mayhem, members from both sides sustained minor injuries while as many as 15 vehicles were vandalised. According to eyewitness reports, an SDF vehicle got completely burnt. The police could bring the situation under control only after three hours.

Area MLA Tulishi Devi Rai and Namchi MLA Binod Rai reached Turuk to take stock of the situation after which the SDF filed an FIR with Jorethang PS against several SKM leaders and supporters.

The SDF condemned the attack on the Cheli Morcha calling it a shameless act and demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.

Violence was also reported from Melli Bazaar following the Turuk clash. Vehicles and houses were reportedly vandalised there as well, but no reports of injuries have come to light.

FIRs from both parties have been lodged at Melli PS and the matter is under investigation although no arrests have been made so far.

A huge number of police and IRB personnel have been deployed in Kaluk and Melli as well as in the surrounding areas.

SKM president PS Golay and working president Bhariti Sharma were in Melli where they demanded the immediate arrest of those who attacked SKM supporters. Golay said the SKM believes in peace and will not create any situation that undermines law and order in the state. He also appealed to party workers to maintain peace.
