The Siliguri police has said that Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) will not be allowed to organize a ‘car rally’ when the party welcomes BJP candidate for the Darjeeling Lok Sabh seat, SS Ahluwalia.
The GJM had earlier announced a 100 car rally for Mr Ahluwalia, who is scheduled to arrive in Siliguri around 2 P.M today.
Siliguri Police Commissioner Jag Mohan has said, “we will not allow any car rally where more than a hundred cars will run after Mr Ahluwalia. We will act as per instructions from the district election officer,” he added that a convoy of a maximum of 10 cars will be allowed to pick up Mr Ahluwalia when he goes to Darjeeling from the Bagdogra airport.
Reacting to the news, senior GJMM leader Binay Tamang said: “We apprehend that the state will not allow us to welcome the BJP candidate at Bagdogra airport. We have decided to welcome Mr Ahluwalia because we had welcomed Jaswant Singh at Bagdogra airport in 2009 when the BJP nominated him as its candidate for the Darjeeling LS seat.”
