Tamang Development Board approved by the State Cabinet

The state cabinet has reportedly approved the formation of Tamang Development Board, a  development board for the Tamang community in the Darjeeling hills. A team comprising 14 members led by Nazoo Glan of the Tamang Youth Association today met with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Naavana House in the afternoon.

They interacted for half an hour during which the chief minister was presented with the approval documents given by the Cabinet to the association. The meeting was also attended by representatives of the Mangar, Rai, Sunwar, Newar, Bhujel, Thami, Jogi, Khas, Yakha Dewan and Dhimal communities who requested Banerjee for Scheduled Tribe status. 14 member of delegates under the leadership of Tamang Youth Association (TYA) headed by Nazoo Glan met the hon`ble Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at Naavana House at 3 p.m today. Cordial discussion took place for half an hour between the delegates and hon`ble chief minister Mamata Banerjee and also disclosed and handed over the paper of cabinet approval to Tamang Youth Association(TYA).


Simultaneously, the other communities of Darjeeling hills were present in the meeting - namely-: Mangar, Rai, Sunwar, Newar, Bhujel, Thami, Jogi, Khas, Yakha, Dewan, and Dhimal, demanding the ST status, also handed over the cabinet approval and recommendation for the ST status of the tribes of the Darjeeling hills.
