Bimal’s courageous act against Mamata

Is a sign of getting back form like a cricketer who loses his place in the team

Bimal Gurung seems to be back in form like a cricketer who loses his place in the Indian cricket team eventually after losing form. The septuagenarian leader who revolted against Subash Ghisngh in 2007 had made people speak up their mind while Ghisingh had turned out to be a tryst for 20 odd years.

Ofcourse on the hindsight, he lost the credibility by accepting the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) and making the wrong moves. Gorkhaland is a sentimental issue and backing away from it has always been hazardous for leaders in the hills.

This cameo for political survival interestingly looks to have hit Gurung’s mind just ahead of the polls where he chooses to back BJP, likely to come to power at the centre, with a hope that the demand for separate state finds justice.

The consequence of attacking chief minister Mamata Banerjee repeatedly since the past two days may not be a formidable one. A short interview to a TV journalist on Thursday – the day which was considered as a voting day for and against Gorkhaland – Gurung categorically dared it did not matter whether Mamata or other forces opposed the creation of Gorkhaland as long as the centre actually does it.

The change in tactics or approach towards politics from Bimal obviously is because the once regarded King of the hills is back in the hills. Though silently, Subash Ghisingh has started to make base in the hills and that is a bigger danger for Bimal rather than what he has to face from Mamata post election. Mamata has announced publicly that GJM would have to face the wrath after the polls for not supporting her.

Whether people mostly from the hills voted GJM-BJP alliance was eventually was of much importance for the party though throughout the day. Because if it does not prove mandate this polls, the GJM certainly will have to lose the driver’s seat which means Ghisingh would then rise as a dominant force. So, under given circumstances it is a necessity for Bimal to open his eyes and strike the right move before Ghisingh and Mamata capitalizes in it.

The poll results later to come ofcourse will speak volumes of what GJM would have to face in the coming days.
