"DARJEELING’S RED PANDA JOINS VOTER AWARENESS CAMPAIGN FOR PARLIAMENTARY ELECTION 2014"
Darjeeling is globally known for the rare and beautiful Red Panda, besides the rich natural flora and fauna.
The Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) of 4-Darjeeling PC and SDO Kalimpong, Ms. Radhika Aiyyar, has created colourful and exciting Voters’ Awareness Campaign using the RED PANDA as the Mascot for the Parliamentary Election 2014.
This Animation Character will take the message of free and fair voting to the Darjeeling voters and beyond. The mascot has been designed as dressed up in traditional dresses of various ethnic groups of Darjeeling district.
The use of this Mascot is to also create awareness about the Nature and Wildlife, which is of utmost importance for the Darjeeling district's identity, even amidst the political heat and campaign.
The red panda as the official mascot for elections as regards to 4-Darjeeling Parliamentary Constituency has been approved by the Election commission of India, as informed to the District Election Officer by the Office of Chief Electoral Officer of the State on 2nd April.
The District Magistrate and District Election Officer, Darjeeling informed the media that Shri R. D. Meena, IAS, Divisional Commissioner, Jalpaiguri Division will be officially unveiling the mascot in a function at Gorkha Ranga Mancha Bhawan on 3rd April 2014 at 11:00 a.m.
Presence of all, including various political parties, local organizations, press and the general public is solicited during this historic occasion.
