KALIMPONG: Five people in a vehicle including its driver died today following an unfortunate accident on NH 31A near Bhalukhola around 1:00pm. The passenger vehicle bearing a Sikkim registration number plunged down nearly 100ft after its driver, Sitaram Chettri (26), a Singtam resident, lost control. Chettri and three others died on the spot, while one person succumbed to his injuries on the way to Melli hospital.
The remaining eight people travelling in the vehicle have also sustained injuries, with two of them reportedly being in a critical condition. The injured are being treated in the Kalimpong sub-divisional hospital.
