Siliguri: Following GNLF declaration of their support to TMC, the Trinamul Congress today welcomed the decision by the Gorkha National Liberation Front (GNLF) chief Subash Ghishing \ Subash Ghising for supporting their candidate Bhaichung Bhutia in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections 2014 in the Darjeeling constituency.

"The Trinamul Congress is always for unity between the plains and the Hills, development and preservation of culture in the Hills. The chief minister has always laid emphasis on these issues. We welcome their decision," North Bengal development minister Gautam Deb.
He further added today’s political development have strengthen Baichung Bhutia’s chances in the Hills who is a Trinamul Congress Lok Sabha candidate from Darjeeling.
"The GNLF has its traditional vote bank, and it will definitely strengthen our support base in the polls," he said.
TMC activists were also optimistic about the GNLF decision to Support them.
"We were hopeful of winning the Darjeeling seat, but after the GNlF support, it seems the contest will be easier for us, as the GNLF is not a spent force and it still holds its traditional vote bank, both in the Terai and the Hills. We feel GNLF chief Subash Ghisingh is still a factor," a Trinamul leader said. Replying to a question, the leader said they were yet to decide on whether the Trinamul and Mr Ghisingh will go on a joint campaigning.
Ghishing's decision, for sure, has made the difference this time as because of the vote division in the hills for the first time has taken place. GJM backed BJP might have panicked a bit owing to this political development in the hills.
