In another instance of discrimination, the hill SC and ST students are yet to get bicycles provided by the West Bengal government. Where as the students in the plains have been given the cycles a long time back.
The West Bengal government had started a scheme under which SC and ST students who are in class 9 to 12 studying in government schools would be given bicycles, and the students from the Gorubathan block had filled out all their forms and submitted the same to the BDO office in October of 2013. However they are not given their cycles till date.
313 students from Yuddhabir HS, Rongo HS, Ambiyok HS, Jaldhaka HS, Chisang HS, Gorubathan HS, Pokhriabung HS, Kumai HS and Gairibas HS have submitted their forms, but there has been no official communication so far. The students have said that this kind of discrimination is sickening and have requested the GTA to interfere.
