Gorkha Janmukti Morcha general secretary Roshan Giri today alleged that some unknown persons had been impersonating party president Bimal Gurung and calling up businessmen in Siliguri demanding money in a bid to malign the party and the GTA Sabha chief executive.
“I received a call from a businessman in Siliguri yesterday informing me about a call he had received from a person claiming to be Bimal Gurung and demanding money. The mischief call was made from 9800098575. We immediately rang up Siliguri police commissioner Jag Mohan and lodged a verbal complaint,” Giri told journalists in Darjeeling.
Giri said similar calls had also made to another businessman in Siliguri and one in Sikkim. “In the past, too, some persons had indulged in similar acts. I will appeal to businessmen to remain alert against such mischief-mongers. Those making the calls are trying to besmirch the image of Gurung and the Morcha.”
Giri, however, refused to divulge the names of the businessmen who had received the calls.
The Siliguri police commissioner confirmed that a verbal complaint had been lodged with him. “We want a formal complaint. We are ready. We will be happy to take action,” he told The Telegraph over the phone. Jag Mohan, however, said some action had already been initiated on the basis of the verbal intimation.
