The Darjeeling Chronicle received this letter meant for our politicians from one of their readers - Mr. Deek Sharma. In the most simple of words, he has conveyed our greatest fear and worry.
Here's what he writes:-
A request to our leaders, especially GJMM.
I am proud to be a supporter of the leaders who have taken ownership and worked really hard for the development of Darjeeling. I can say nothing else but can ‘thank you’ for this development initiative taken from your side.
Kudos to the efforts that has resulted in the GTA region being awarded 'The Best Rural Tourism' award. It is really good for the people of Darjeeling which will for sure increase the source of income for those who rely on tourism.
But the main reason for writing this note is to divert your concern to our original demand – That is of our identity – our state Gorkhaland.
I am not very wise to understand politics at a very high level, but with the increasing popularity of BJP in Bengal, I am worried about the stand BJP will take on the formation of Gorkhaland statehood. I am worried that they might renegade on their promise. I am worried that once they become a political force in Bengal, they will become like TMC and earlier CPI(M), and deny us our rights.
So I again request all the Gorkhaland supporting political parties and other non-political organisations to be serious about the concern and start working and raising the demand all along with the mass making the Central government to react before it’s too late and before the 2016 assembly poll.
Thanks.
Deek Sharma
