Several people have reportedly been duped by the fraudsters in and around Kurseong region through different ways and mobile calls.
It was learnt that several fraudsters are active these days to dupe the innocent people. These fraudsters reportedly used to call the people regarding the details of their bank accounts and once the account details were given to them, their account is emptied by them later.
Recently, a teacher, working in a reputed school in Kurseong had received a similar kind of call but during the conversation over phone. Fortunately having realized the motive of the caller she instead admonished him for trying to dupe others.
She said that recently a call had been made to her, in which the caller represented himself as a bank employee. The caller asked the details of her account details, but when the caller asked for her ATM details, she immediately objected as she realized the person was only trying to dupe her.
In another incident, recently, a resident of Kurseong had received a call from a Delhi number, where the caller said that he has won a brand new mobile done through online lottery. The fraudster relates to him the actual price of the mobile in the market is worth 13,000 but he would avail of it if he send Rs.3000. Accordingly later when the money was sent to him via the post office the mobile package arrives from Delhi but it only contains a empty box. In such similar ways many people have been duped and the trend is only increasing.
As per the bank officials they never ask for details of their clients and hence even if other people make calls to them for such details they should be aware and not entertain such dialogue with anyone.
A police officer said that if people come upon such calls and doubts the motive of the caller they should immediately contact the police administration. People should be aware about such frauds going on and hence they must themselves be serious about the operandi and should not give details to anyone and everybody just because they want it.
