Silaz was a permanent resident of Margaret's Hope Tea Estate under the Kurseong Sub Division. Another student, Aman Biswakarma, of the same school was with Silaz when the accident occurred. It is learnt that the vehicle dragged the boy around 15 feet and that he died after being crushed by one of the wheels.

After the accident the offending driver escaped from the scene and is yet to be found.

The police have been unable to trace him/her so far.

Following the incident and delay in arresting the culprit, the students from various schools across Kurseong staged a protest and shut down the traffic. The 'Chakka-Jam' was only lifted after the administration gave assurance that the absconding culprit will be arrested within 24 hours.

Even though Silaz was killed by a speeding vehicle, but can the administration escape guilt?

Kurseong town needs pedestrian cross walks - like the ones in Gangtok and it also needs speed breakers in various places - none of which have been built.

The death of a very bright student could have been easily avoided, if only our politicians focused more on proper priorities instead of spending Crores on foreign trips - be it Singapore or Kathmandu.
