West Bengal municipal corporation elections Result

Kolkata: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress TMC is leading in 67 out of 91 civic bodies even as counting of votes in the recently-concluded West Bengal municipal corporation elections is underway on Tuesday.

In Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), Trinamool Congress has won in over 60 wards followed by Left Front which has won in 15 while Bharatiya Janata Party and Congress have bagged five and four wards respectively after fourth round of counting.

Kolkata's Mayor and TMC candidate from ward from 131, Shovan Chattopadhyay, is leading over his nearest CPI(M) rival by a massive lead.

Meanwhile, Deputy Mayor of Kolkata, Farzana Alam, lost to RSP candidate in ward number 65 of KMC.

In Siliguri municipal corporation, Left Front is leading in 17 wards while TMC is ahead in 13.

Security had been strengthened ahead of counting of votes which started at 8 am.

The civic polls were held in 91 municipalities across the state on April 25 which recorded a voter turnout of 79 per cent. Voting for Kolkata Municipal Corporation took place on April 18.

Repolling at 36 booths in over five districts took place on Monday after reports of booth-jamming, booth-capturing, theft and damage of EVM machines from these booths during the April 25 polling.

Over 70 percent voter turnout was recorded in yesterday's repolling.

There are 7,636 candidates contesting for 1,946 wards of the 91 municipal bodies - one Notified Area, two Municipal Corporations (Siliguri and Chandannagar) and 88 municipalities - spread across north and south Bengal.
