We condemn in the strongest possible words this draconian act of banning Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle(APSC), a Dalit student organisation in IIT- Madras, by MHRD- of BJP government on frivolous grounds of "spreading hatred" and criticizing PM Modi and his failure of government policies (Ghar Wapasi, Love Jihad, Communal attacks on Churches etc). APSC, are student group who draws inspiration from the ideas of Babasaheb B. R. Ambedkar and rationalist Periyar E. V. Ramasamy. Their only crime has been to propagate the critical ideas of Ambedkar and Periyar on issue of caste oppression and superstitions in the campus which seems hostile to such progressive thoughts. In a democratic society, no one can be considered or made to "holy cow", who/which cannot be criticized.
Rapid Intolerance towards any such critique/dissent only seems recipe for authoritarian and dictatorial regime.Such blatant intimidation and forceful gagging of thoughts by government and IIT-authorities amount to gagging the spirit of democracy itself. If it goes uncontested, it will set dangerous precedent for all other individuals, groups and organisations who share conviction contrary and critical to the ruling establishment. Freedom of thoughts and expression are unalienable rights and any form of attack/or censuring on it will be travesty of justice and cold blooded euthanasia of our democratic ethos. We extend our uncompromising solidarity with Ambedkar Periyar Study Circle(APSC) in their fight against such undemocratic and unjust move by State.
