In a surprising political move in the hills Dr. Harka Bahadur Chettri has been nominated as the Trinmool Congress candidate for Kalimpong seat for Assembly election 2016 which is going to conducted in April.
Mamata has fielded her candidates in Darjeeling also, challenging the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha (GJM), which is considered as cardinal political force in the Hills. Rebel GJM MLA Harka Bahadur Chhetri will contest Kalimpong seat as Trinamool candidate.
Dr Harka Bahadur in the recent times have become the face of the force against the ruling GJM in the hills. Harka after splitting from Gorkha Janmukti Morcha have formed his own Party JAP (Jan Andolan Party) in Kalimpong Demanding separate district status for Kalimpong.
