Stronger the Base, strong is the structure we build

Writes: Atish Subba

We all know that if the base is strong then nothing can move or destroy that structure. If we do not study alphabets (English letters or letters of any languages) we won't be able to write, read or understand what it means. So, it is very important to have a base stronger for anything we do.

All of us are different and we all have a different approach to same one thing.

I am talking about a movement for a demand of the separate state. Our Darjeeling has already seen three leaders demand a separate state. It is from 1907, that's what I read and we are still struggling till now.

Please correct me if I am wrong, or go wrong anywhere.
To make a movement successful we first need strong agenda, a leader to lead the mass and the people to follow him/her. We had good leaders to lead us with one vision but without good plans or strategies.

To stand in a crowd and lead is not easy. We need to have a leadership quality, but that is not enough to succeed in what we crave for.

To run an organization. We need many departments. Like Accounts to handle finances, Human Resource to recruit good talents, a Marketing team to take care of markets (study and analyze), Trainers to train the people regarding products they are dealing with, etc. And finally, the managers to manage those talents/employees.

For an organisation to function as one strong entity they need to set up all the small things in proper places to function.
What we lack in our political movement for a demand of a separate state is a good and strong base.

There is no doubt that we Ghorkhas are brave and can fight and win wars. We have won many and we are praised for it, But the demand for statehood is not a war. It's a movement and struggle.
If people are playing with intelligence then we need to play in the same manner to win. Had it been a war, we might have already won a long time ago. Perhaps, it's a movement and we need intellectual to support and make a base stronger. All of us have heard a saying, "A pen is mightier than a sword."

Even a Prime Minister has advisors, people to write his speeches, legal teams, etc. Wherein, in the case of ours. I doubt we hardly have political advisors, intellectual in the party running the movement. Please forgive me, if I am wrong.

People who are educated would hardly like to be in politics. As we know it is the dirty game. However, we need someone to be there to support the movement with knowledge, ideas, and strong strategies. Or else I see our movement going nowhere. Only bearing pain and trouble from many years for same one demand.

Our leaders are the one to speak for us, but they should not sell themselves only for the betterment of their families. If they have stood up for a society then they should not negotiate anything lesser than what we are looking for.

They should have advisors, intellectuals to analyze the needs and requirements and plan the course of actions and our leaders should take actions according to plans and strategies.
In the age of knowledge, mind game, manipulations.Only bravery and courage will not be able to hold on a ground alone for a long time. If another team is attacking with guns, we cannot fight with bows and arrows and expect to win.

Please do not forget that the party we are challenging is a national party and we are just small regional party. They have an experience of many years. If they have dethroned a party who ruled for 23 years. I see our leaders and party standing nowhere near to them. Imagine what all political tactics, strategies they can use and is using right now. They give us kind of mental torture by saying they will make Bengali compulsory in all schools in the state. It is just a sample, I am sure.

I am not demotivating or making us feel weaker, but just want to make us know where we stand and how hard we need to work to succeed. We should never forget that our struggle is against that government. If we want to win a game and beat the champion. We need to learn the tactics and their weakness.

The good thing about us is unity. That too is being marginalized. They are trying to break us apart. We hope our leaders will learn. Will study, analyze, plan and action accordingly.   It has already been ten years now. We hope we will make our base stronger to give strength to our struggle and movement.

Note: I am not a political writer. I am a social and philosophical writer. There are far good writers than me. These are my views, opinions and suggestions as a Ghorkha and a resident of Mirik, Dist: Darjeeling, Darjeeling, India.
