Dimapur Gorkha Union to Host NE Nepali Literary Symposium

Dimapur Gorkha Union is all set to host the North East Nepali literary symposium cum felicitation programme on February 1 at Dimapur Town hall Dimapur. The event is being organizes with the objective to unite the Gorkhas of Nagaland and North-East states.

Addressing a press conference in the residence of the DGU chief advisor in Nepali Basti Sunday evening, PRO and in charge Dipak Lama said that the programme is a first of its kind in Nagaland. He said Dimapur was chosen to host the programme as 60% of the total Gorkha population is in the North East.

Further, Dimapur has been chosen because of the feasibility in connectivity with the other states.

Pointing out that though the Constitution of India gave recognition to Nepali language in the Eighth Schedule, PRO further said much knowledge is not known in the area of literary. He said the literary symposium aspires to give recognition and awareness.

The programme would felicitate Late. Hariprasad Gorkha Rai and others from the field of administration, education, social and politics. Delegates from Meghalaya, Manipur, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Sikkim and Darjeeling would be attending the programme.

The programme is organized by Mir Mirey Kanchanjunga, Weekly Journal of Sikkim in collaboration with the North Eastern Nepali Writers, Poets & Journalists.

The programme would be graced by Editor Nagaland Post Geoffrey Yaden and Chief Executive Gorkha Development Council, Government of Assam, Arun Upadhyaya as guest of honour and chief guest respectively.

Dimapur Gorkha Union mourned death of 4 members of a family in an Accident

Dimapur, February 19 : Dimapur Gorkha Union (DGU) has deeply mourned the tragic death of four members of a family on February 17, 2014 in an accident near Changki Village, Mokokchung. In a press release, DGU informed that the victims were Narmaya Pradhan, 72, wife of Til Bahadur Pradhan; Monmaya Pradhan, 33, daughter of Til Bahadur Pradhan; Tara Parajuli, 27, daughter of Til Bahadur Pradhan; and Senkalemba Ao, son-in-law of Til Bahadur Pradhan, all hailing from Bamun Pukhuri, Dimapur.

The tragic accident occurred in the wee hours of February 17, where the ill fated truck fell some 600 meters below the road. It was very difficult to retrieve the dead bodies since the truck fell into a deep narrow gorge, the release noted. The DGU has extended its deepest gratitude to Changki Village Council, Chungtia Village Council, Aliba Village Council, Longjangkong Village Council and the people of the respective villages for their efforts in retrieving all the bodies from such a narrow and inaccessible terrain.

The DGU also extended its gratitude to Maniraj Rai of Mokokchung Town and all the Gorkhas under the Gorkha Union Mokokchung for their presence, support, prayers and for arranging the coffins for the victims. Further, it thanked the president and members of Mokokchung District Truck Owners Association, D.G. Home Guards, Nagaland, Commandant, Home Guards, Training Centre, Toluvi Village, Dimapur, DEF, Mokokchung, Churches and the President & members of Bamun Pukhuri Unit of DGU for travelling all the way to the spot and bringing back the bodies to Dimapur.

The DGU also expressed its deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
