WBJEE Pattern Changed - Exam Dates Declared

The West Bengal Joint Entrance Board (WBJEE) today brought about some major changes in the examination pattern, allotting 150 marks for biology.

WBJEE  Exam 

The decision has been taken to increase the importance of medical science and prompt students to focus more on biology. Even negative marking has been decreased to 1/4th from 1/3rd with multiple choice questions in all the papers.

Previously, 100 marks were allotted for the Biology examination, but after the change 150 marks will be allotted for biology examination.
There were also changes in the marks for physics, chemistry too. Previously, 75 marks were allotted each for physics and chemistry, but now both the papers have been combined and 50 marks was allotted for each paper. There havebeen changes in the syllabus too and it has been so designed so that it keeps parity with CBSE, ISC and HS Board.

Mr Bhaskar Gupta , chairman of Joint Entrance Board said that the new syllabus has been uploaded on the website and as the syllabus for Higher Secondary has been changed we have decided to change the syllabus, so that students do not face any difficulty during their examinations.

Senior officials of WBJEE said that the change in the syllabus has been made so that students from no particular school/Board will get preferential treatment. More descriptive topics have been either omitted or given less importance than the analytical ones. Stress has been laid more on the depth of the syllabi rather than the extent of coverage.

There will be changes in marking system whereby more questions will be given in Category III rather than Category II. Previously, 10 questions were allotted in Category II, but now five questions will be given in Category II and 10 questions will be given in Category III. In 2015, Biology examination of WBJEE will be held on 18 April, while mathematics, physics, chemistry will be held on 19 April.

What is RTI ?

The Right to Information Act (RTI) is an Act of the Parliament of India "to provide for setting out the practical regime of right to information for citizens" and replaces the erstwhile Freedom of information Act, 2002. The Act applies to all States and Union Territories of India except Jammu & Kashmir. Under the provisions of the Act, any citizen may request information from a "public authority" (a body of Government or "instrumentality of State") which is required to reply expeditiously or within thirty days. The Act also requires every public authority to computerise their records for wide dissemination and to proactively certain categories of information so that the citizens need minimum recourse to request for information formally. This law was passed by Parliament on 15 June 2005 and came fully into force on 13 October 2005.

Aadhaar card not mandatory for any service - Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on Monday directed the Centre to immediately withdraw the instruction, if any, issued by it for making Aadhaar card mandatory for citizens to avail government services. 

"If there are any instructions that Aadhaar is mandatory, it should be withdrawn immediately" a bench of justices B S Chauhan and J Chelameswar said while staying the order of the Goa bench of the Bombay high court directing sharing of data collected for issuing Aadhaar card to citizens with CBI for solving a rape case.

The bench said biometric or any other data should not be shared with any authorities unless the accused gives consent in writing. 

The probe agency had sought the data base, including biometrics of persons from Goa, so that those could be compared with the ones obtained from the crime scene for the purpose of investigating rape of a minor girl in a school premises in Vasco. 

The apex court had in its September 2013 interim order said Aadhaar card be not (not) made mandatory for people for availing government services and nobody should be deprived of such facilities for want of the card. 

The bench passed the order on a petition filed by the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) challenging the high court order which asked it to consider sharing biometric data collected from people with CBI in order to help the investigating agency solve a rape case in Vasco. 

The high court had in an February 26 interim order directed the director general, Central Forensic and Scientific Laboratory (CFSL), New Delhi, to appoint an expert to ascertain if its data base has the technological capability for matching the chance fingerprints electronically obtained.
