Jaigaon OC Gazmer transferred, people resent move

PRADIP LAMA, KALCHINI, 6 Aug 2013: After the Panchayat election in Jalpaiguri district, news of a transfer order for Binod Gajmer, the officer in charge of Jaigaon police station, has caused quite a stir in the region as well as opposition to the move given the good rapport he has established with the people.

Addressing the media today and confirming the news, Gazmer shared his experiences in the region. He said he was happy serving the people of Jaigaon for two years. Gajmer was appointed to Jaigaon police station on August 22, 2011 and since then he has built good relations between the police and public. Residents were unanimous in vowing that Gajmer had always dealt cases brought to him without showing an inch of bias or partiality.

Gajmer joined the police force in 1996 and since then has been in charge of several stations such as Bhaktinagar, NJP, Birpara and Madarihat to name a few. While posted in Samuktala, he played a vital role in controlling KLO activities in the area and had also arrested several robbers in Hamiltonganj.

The officer was awarded with the Gallantry Award in 2003 by former chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya. Following his transfer to Jaigaon, incidents of robbery and illegal activities had fallen drastically.

Gajmer has been transferred to Rajganj police station while Panjak Thapa will take his place at the Madarihat police station as the new OC of Jaigaon.
