Jadavpur University, August 26th, 2013. A rally of a musical kind was organized today in support of Gorkhaland at the Jadavpur University, Kolkata. The musical rally was organized by a students magazine 'Suffran" and the individual who took the initiative and turned the rally into a success was Mr. Sumendra from Kurseong.
Around 200 students from Jadavpur University and other colleges enthusiastically joined it. The rally saw active participation of Bengali students, who also came with their guitars.
The rally started at World View Bookstore and made a round of the whole Jadavpur University Campus singing songs like Blowing in the wind, Teesta rangit sukdaina and we shall over come in Nepali, Bangla, English and Hindi.
Corresponding with the Darjeeling Times reporter, Mr Gyanendra M Pradhan a PhD Scholar in the Department of Comparative Litereature, JU said, "It was heartening to hear the universal song of defience, "We Shall Over Come," became "We Want Gorkhaland"" towards the end... a slew of other conferences are also happening tomorrow and the day after in Kolkata...."
With the success of this musical rally in the heart of Kolkata, more intellectuals, thinkers and activists from the Bengali community are expected to come out in support of Gorkhaland in the coming days.
