AIGL - GJMM has never been loyal to Gorkhaland issue

Coming down heavily on the GJMM on the issue of Gorkhaland, the All India Gorkha League (AIGL) general secretary Mr Pratap Khati, said the GJMM keeps flaunting the statehood card to perpetuate its hegemony on the Darjeeling Hills.

“It has never been loyal to the cause. Their commitment is at best spurious. They are emotionally blackmailing the common people, taking them for a ride,” he said while talking to reporters in Gangtok today.

Taking instance of what the former Union home secretary Mr R K Singh had said during a seminar held in Delhi recently on the issue of Gorkhaland to bolster his line of argument against the GJMM, the AIGL leader said Mr Singh had mentioned the GJMM as never stressing on the statehood demand. “The cat was out of the bag as the former bureaucrat said that the GJMM had remained focused on strengthening the GTA during the tripartite meeting held when he was holding office,” Mr Khati said.

Contrasting the GJMM leadership with the slain AIGL president Madan Tamang, he said while the latter was a true champion of the cause the former represents what is known as mountebank. “The GJMM is fumbling and bungling, for they have no firm commitment to the cause they claim to espouse,” he said.

Pinning his hope on the Hill academic Mr Mahendra P Lama for advancing the statehood cause, the senior AIGL leader said he alone could shed the light now. “He would lead us in the right direction towards the goal of Gorkhaland,” he added.
