Darjeeling, Sept. 23: Workers in all 87 tea gardens in the Darjeeling hills would get Puja bonus at the rate of 20 per cent of their annual pay.
The maximum amount for bonus has been capped at Rs 10,000.
The bonus of labourers generally doesn’t rise to Rs 10,000. The Rs 10,000 cap has been kept keeping other higher paid garden staff in mind.
The decision was reached today at a meeting of the Darjeeling Tea Association (DTA) and the representatives of six labour unions, including the Morcha-affiliated Darjeeling Terai Dooars Plantation Labour Union.
According to the DTA principal adviser, Sandeep Mukherjee, the bonus would be disbursed by the gardens by September 28. “We have decided on a bonus of 20 per cent for all tea garden workers. The payment will be made by September 28 in all gardens, barring five financially weak ones that would make the payment by October 9.”
