Acting on a tip off, a police team arrested the trio. “The three peddlers had brought the drugs yesterday evening. We received the information and raided the hotel on PNG Road. The police has also recovered Rs 28,000, two mobile phones and two electronic notebooks,” said the superintendent of police, Manoj Tewari.

The drugs seized by the police include 1,108 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon and 130 capsules of Nitrosun-10. A doctor in Gangtok said Spasmoproxyvon is a painkiller used during pregnancies while N-10 is a sedative.

The arrested persons have been identified as Bijoy Rai, 24, Ranjit Gurung, 35, from Gangtok and Pradeep Prasad, 32, from Siliguri. They have been booked under the Sikkim Anti Drug Act (SADA).

“These people bring drugs from Siliguri and sell them in Sikkim at almost three times the actual cost,” Tewari said.

In another incident yesterday, two persons were arrested in East Sikkim with 1,104 capsules of Spasmoproxyvon and 310 bottles of cough syrup while coming to Gangtok from Siliguri. Suman Pradhan, 23 and Topden Tamang, who works as a driver, had hidden the drugs in an SUV in which they were travelling.
