Darjeeling Dooars United Development Foundation, a new party, formed

Darjeeling hills has witnessed emergence of yet another apolitical organisation for the statehood demand. 
Professor Mahendra P. Lama Pro Vice Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi, the world’s largest Open and Distance Learning educational institute declared that for the wholistic development of the people of the Hills, Terai and the Dooars Darjeeling Dooars United Development Foundation is formed.
He further informed that he has resigned from the prestigious post of the Pro Vice Chancellor of IGNOU and other governmental posts as well.


During a press meet held in Darjeeling Prof. Lama who was also the founding Vice Chancellor of the Central University of Sikkim said that it has forwarded a 25 point agenda for the betterment of the entire area of Darjeeling Hills and the plains. DDUDF will act as a robust, forward looking and independent forum and also as a think tank for all the people to participate and contribute to issues of social, cultural, political, economic and environmental and other public interest concerns and interests, he added.

A hand out of DDUDF issued during the press conference stated that formation of DDUDF is a novel, innovative and comprehensive initiative by the members of the civil society, and social, political and professional formations in the Darjeeling District and Dooars. 
It also stated that DDUDF is born out of the need to enhance the level of consciousness, and standard of debate and discourse on the politics, development and environmental, educational, professional and other critical issues that concern the Darjeeling district and Dooars region of today. 
Further it said that it would propagate and advocate the most modern yet appropriate strategies; traditional yet time tested framework and cost effective and all inclusive approaches to political, social, economic and environmental, public welfare and national interest issues. 25 Points objectives include Separate State hood demand for the area comprising of Darjeeling District and Dooars region, a puma swaraj (complete self governance)in the form of a separate state within the constitutional framework of the country.
Other important objective of DRUDF is to bring forth the criticality of identity issue of the Indian Gurkhas at the apex decision making bodies of the national and state governments and provide it a durable and permanent solution. 
To ensure the representation of the people of Darjeeling District and Dooars in the policy-making bodies like the State Assembly, Parliament and other regional and national institutions and fora so that the people of this region by nominating and funding candidates for positions like Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA), Member of Parliament(MP) and other elected bodies and other regional and national fora, is another objective of the DRUDF. 
One of the objectives is to develop the entire area and the inhabitants of the area by maintaining a corruption free administration, and let the people exercise their rights to education and others as per the provision of the government, stated the statement of DRUDF.
