Preservation of tourism spots in Mirik and promote eco-tourism - NGO

leading NGO in Mirik, ‘Sachet Manch’, met with Mirik Municipality Chairman Mala Subba today and submitted deputation to the Chairman for preservation of tourism spots in Mirik, which is in shambles. The NGO has also presented another memorandum for making Mirik an eco-tourism spot. In response to the deputations, the Chairman has assured to take steps in order to restore the ruined tourist spots.

Mirik Lake, which once stood as the main tourism spot, is now under doldrums. The increase in the rate of pollution in the lake is repelling the tourists instead of attracting them; while environmentalists fear that in the coming days the lake will lose its charm if proper steps to preserve the lake aren’t taken in time, the NGO said. Negligence and unkempt supervision has resulted in pollution of the lake and is in need of an urgent cleanliness drive, the NGO added. Meanwhile, a scientific study of the lake’s ecosystem shows the lake can also be explored for the study of its unique flora and fauna.
