AAGSU condemned the Behali killing

The All Assam Gorkha Students Union (AAGSU), the apex organisation of Gorkha students and youth of Assam, has vehemently condemned the gruesome killing of 10 villagers and injuring several others by suspected Arunachali miscreants along the Assam-Arunachal Border at Chawuldhuwa village under Behali Reserve Forest of Sonitpur District of Assam.

"AAGSU vehemently condems the incident that killed Himan Subba, Prabhat Subba,Bhalu Subba, Tamrukhel Subba, Ganesh Newar , Rupsang Munda, Moneswar Brahma and 3 others and injured several others," said Nanda Kirati Dewan , publicity secretary AAGSU in Guwahati.

He recalled that the AAGSU had submitted several memorandums to appropriate authorities time and again seeking intervention in settling the intrastate border dispute with Assam of the adjoining states Arunachal Pradesh, Nagaland and Meghalaya and provide security to borderside and reserve forests dwellers and who have been prone to illegal encroachers and antisocial elements.

"This incident is evidence of lack of sincerity of Home Department of Govt. of Assam and lawlessness who failed to provide security to the landless farmers who were safeguarding Assamese land by inhabiting the Behali Reserve Forest at Chawlduwa village," Dewan said criticizing the Assam government for failing to provide security.

Delegations of AAGSU lead by Gorkha Autnomous Council Demand Committee (GACDC) Chairman and AAGSU Advisor Harkha Bahadur Chetri and AAGSU General Secretary Bhim Bahadur Rai and members AAGSU Sonitpur District Committee and regional units, Assam Gorkha Sammelan General Secretary C B Rai and Secretaries Bhaskar Dahal and Khadga Biswakrama visited the spot to accesses ground zero situation.

Chetri informed mediapersons from Borgang, where AAGSU and natives held protest gathering and marched, that Gorkha organizations namely AAGSU, AGS and GACDC condemns this incident in toughest words and demand one crore compensation from the Arunachal Pradesh government and twenty five lakhs each compensation from the Assam government to the deceased and one lakh each to the injured.

He said, "We issue an ultimatum of three days till to book the culprits and perpetuators of this gruesome attack and ensure safety and security of the natives immediately and announce compensation as demanded otherwise the AAGSU supported by all community organization will call indefinite economic blockade along Assam-Arnachal Pradesh border through out Assam."

Dil Kishore Dhungel AAGSU Jonai unit gen secy said that the AAGSU Jonai unit along with other organisations have started indefinite road and economic blockade at Jonai along NH52 mean while AAGSU Lakhimpur District took to street to protest and organized a rally.

Harmoti regional unit organized a candle light vigil to protest the incident. AAGSU Dibrugarh, Tinsukia , Sivsagar and Golaghat district units also registered protested in various places.

AAGSU president Udoy Singh Limboo too condemned the incident from Jagun along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border in Tinsukia district of Eastern Assam and threatened both Assam and Arunachal Pradesh governments of dire democratic consequences if the demands are not met within Sunday.

"A complete shutdown shall be observed across Assam on Feb 3 that shall begin the indefinite economic blockade through out Assam if our demands are met and ensure justice within three days," he said.

He further appealed to all sections of society and civil society organizations to protest killing of innocent peoples and appealed the union government to immediately settle all the border disputes to further avoid such incidents.
