Trinamool Congress leaders are creating communal disharmony in the hills with support from the Gorkha Janamukti Morcha led by its chief Bimal Gurung, alleged district Left Front convener Ashok Bhattacharya today at a press conference here.
Speaking at Anil Biswas Bhawan, the CPM party office, Bhattacharya said that as the LF does not promote communal discord, it will not participate in any meeting with either the GJM or the TMC ahead of the Lok Sabha election. He alleged Gurung has joined forces with the TMC to get a clean chit from a number of legal charges he faces.
According to the LF convener, the GJM chief is prioritising his selfish interests over the interests of the common man. He said the residents of the hills have become aware of the TMC-GJM bonhomie and this is why the Morcha is losing mass support. Bhattacharya added the LF will field its candidates from Darjeeling constituency for the upcoming polls.
The district LF has launched protests against the Sharada and Siliguri Jalpaiguri Development Authority scams and alleged malpractices in the primary teachers’ eligibility test, and Bhattacharya demanded CBI probes into these issues. He added the LF will hold a protest rally in Siliguri on February 7 and meet Governor NK Narayanan the following day to discuss the issues.
The veteran CPM leader further said the LF will convene at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata on February 9 and take up these thorny issues. He also accused the state government of weakening local dairy product manufacturer Himul and informed the district LF will organise demonstrations on February 12 to demand the revival of the flagging firm.
The LF also held a rally in the afternoon on Hill Cart Road condemning the increasing incidents of violence on women.
