The 2014 Lok Sabha election is slated to be held in the last month of April. Meanwhile, different initiatives and activities are being undertaken by various political parties and organizations across the country in preparations for the elections. Following the same trend, the Darjeeling hill unit of CPRM is also currently busy discussing their role in the coming polls within its different units and branches.

When asked about their preparations for the Lok Sabha polls, the CPRM, spokesperson, Govind Chettri said to know the opinion of the party members and supporters regarding the polls, the party leaders have already started discussions related to party activities with them. The main agenda of the discussion currently is to whether support other parties or field its own candidate for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat, he added.

Chettri further said “The final decision will be discussed later by the central committee members after taking into consideration the opinion of all our branches and units.”

When asked regarding the appointment and support requested by the Darjeeling Dooars United Development Forum, (DDUDF) and its founder, Dr. Mahendra P Lama to all political parties including CPRM, Chettri said, “So far the party has not received any letter, but the party will also discuss the appeal made by Dr. Lama during the central committee meeting.”

Notably, two names have already surfaced having announced their candidatures for the Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency seat. One being Dr. Lama’s while the other name that has been confirmed is Nima Lama from the Gorkha Rashtriya Congress. Nima Lama had earlier said the party will run for the general election with the single agenda of Darjeeling-Sikkim merger.
