The Mirik block committee today organised a meeting at the Mirik Tourist Lodge auditorium in keeping with this objective. The meeting was presided over by TMC block president Rajesh Chettri where hill TMC president Rajen Mukhia asserted the right of every individual to follow any party ideology within a democratic form of government. Several new members were also appointed to the Mirik block samiti.
Banerjee is expected to take part in a rally to be conducted by the Tamang Youth Association during her visit to Mirik. Mukhia said the TMC will be calling a crucial meeting on January 8 to discuss security issues and to welcome the CM to the hill town.
Meanwhile, party representatives submitted a deputation to Mirik BDO Pushpa Doma demanding transparency in MGNREGA and other works. TMC leaders complained of the failure of the administration in carrying out schemes under the MGNREGA and remaining biased against other parties other than the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha. The TMC representatives also apprised the BDO of how certain Panchayat members are interfering in the progress of the MGNREGA.
Further, Mukhia said he would urge the CM to make Mirik into a sub-division when they meet shortly.
