The quaint village of Bunkulung that nestles in the lap of the Himalayas has been attracting visitors from far flung places since long due to its unparalleled beauty. But the road leading to this famous tourist destination has remained in ruins for a long time with continuous complaints by residents to the concerned department falling on deaf ears. The 5 km long road connecting Mirik to Bunkulung is a tortuous journey for those who use it on a daily basis.
On the other hand, the road from Soureni High School to Mirik also lies in a critical condition. Soureni resident Charan Rai said the road condition is a cause of great hardship during times of emergency, especially when patients have to be taken to Mirik hospital. The residents of Soureni have time and again appealed to the concerned department to repair damaged sections of the road that serves them as a lifeline.
