Despite the Hill Trinamool Congress making steady expansion in the Mirik region, GJM general secretary Roshan Giri claimed the party is “least bothered” by these developments and asserted the GJM is still the most powerful party in the hills. “The people of the hills are with the GJM” he said while interacting with journalists here.
Responding to a question, Giri said the GJM is not thinking about the upcoming Lok Sabha elections and that the party has not even discussed about the issue till date. Speaking on the issue of support sought by independent candidate Dr. Mahendra P Lama from all parties in the 2014 LS elections, he said the final call will be made by party chief Bimal Gurung.
On being asked if the GJM will participate in the Tamang Youth Association’s function on January 21 where CM Mamata Banerjee will also be present, Giri said the party has not yet received any invitation. He added the party is currently busy hosting the Krishi Mela across various places in the hills.
