The 2nd Sukbir Rai Memorial Football Tournament today kicked-off in Kalimpong. The Kalimpong Veterans’ Club started this annual tournament in 2013 exclusively for motor vehicle drivers of the region. There are 13 participating teams in this year’s tournament.
Various driver associations from town and its surrounding areas will be seen exhibiting their football skills at the Mela Ground over the next few days, with the final match to be played on February 13.
The first match was played this afternoon between Algara-Pedong Drivers Association and Thanadara Drivers in which the former emerged victorious. It was presided over by Drivers Maha Sangh president Tshering Bhutia, while municipality councilor Pradip Pradhan was the chief guest.
