Darjeeling Municipality to sign agreement worth 169.2 crores for drinking water

Late in the evening Bimal Gurung came up with the following FB status The Darjeeling Municipality will sign a Memorandum of Agreement on 26th February with Urban Infrastructure Development Scheme for Small and Medium Towns (UIDSSMT) and State Urban Development Agency SUDA to revamp the drinking water distribution in the Darjeeling Town Area worth 169.2 crores. 


According to this project, the municipality would construct 30 water tanks to cover all 32 municipality wards of Darjeeling.

The project also entails setting up of 14 pumping stations, relaying the entire water pipe line network and introducing water meters both for commercial and domestic purposes. 

This Project will be completed in 30 months. 

With the completion of this project, the Darjeeling Municipality will get rid Darjeeling of its perennial water scarcity problem. 

The Balasun drinking water project is nearing completion and will also be completed in another 6 months. 

We are committed to solve the drinking water crisis in Darjeeling. Despite the people of Darjeeling facing water problem for more than three decades other political parties had never shown the will to solve this problem. The GJM,however, has once again proved that we are committed to make Darjeeling better.
