Gorkhaland Territorial Administration chief executive Bimal Gurung today laid the foundation stone for a fire station near Mirik lake. He said the GTA is focused on developing Mirik as a premium tourism destination and has set aside Rs27 crore for renovation works.
Gurung also appealed to everyone to assist concerned GTA departments in this initiative. The GTA has allocated Rs3.21 crore for the fire station of which Rs1.61 crore will be utilised in the first phase.
The GTA will also take initiatives to renovate the lake by overseeing cleaning, sewerage repairing and beautifying tourist spots in the vicinity. A conference hall will be built holding meetings of the GTA and the GJM, informed Gurung.
He pledged to properly utilise the funds allocated by the Centre in the next three and a half years.
“The GTA will work towards beautification of Mirik as doing so will generate employment in the region,” said the GTA chief, adding he has surveyed the region and taken note of the people’s grievances.
