The Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leadership today suspended P Arjun, a prominent member of the party’s intellectual wing. GJM general secretary Roshan Giri informed reporters in Kurseong study forum member P Arjun has been suspended for sharing the dais with Dr. Mahendra P Lama at a press conference without seeking the consent of the party high command.
Lama, the independent Lok Sabha candidate from Darjeeling constituency, had met the press on Monday at the Siliguri Journalists’ Club.
Giri also said the GJM has already made its stance clear that it will not support the candidature of Lama under any condition and the same has been informed to all party members.
When asked if the GJM will support the Trinamool Congress candidate from Darjeeling constituency, Giri said, “So far we have not decided whether to field our own candidate or support others. There is still time to announce our decision and we will do so at the appropriate time.”
P Arjun, who is also a GJM central committee member, is a commendable orator and writer. He also holds a strong grip among academics and has been with the party since its formation in 2007.
