SUKHAY-POKHARI- Gorkha Janmukti Morcha president and GTA chief executive Bimal Gurung was today in Nagari-Dhaje to address a public meeting where he claimed the GJM is a party formed for the formation of a separate state of Gorkhaland.
Stressing on the necessity of statehood formation for national identity and security of the Gorkhas residing in the country, he said the decision to support the BJP has been inspired by the same thought process. He said the BJP created three new states during its rule and also played a significant role in the creation of Telangana. Stating it is highly likely that the next government at the Centre will be that of the BJP, Gurung said the prospects for Gorkhaland are bright.
Urging people to vote for SS Ahluwalia, the GJM chief said, “Had I been an opportunist I would have been hobnobbing with the TMC now. We are ready to face all the obstructions that come on the way to Gorkhaland.”
Having parted ways with the TMC again, Gurung accused the Mamata Banerjee-led government of conspiring against the hill people and the GJM. He said, “The TMC government withdrew my security and sent Subash Ghisingh to the hills under tight security. There is a deep conspiracy in this.”
He also said the state government’s passing of a bill favouring ST status for 10 Gorkha sub-communities smells foul. Disapproving both Mahendra P Lama and TMC’s Bhaichung Bhutia, Gurung said if Ahuluwalia is not elected from the Darjeeling LS seat, the survival of the Gorkha community will be in jeopardy.
