Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh (BGP) has written a letter to Narendra Modi seeking its attention on seven demands of the organisation. Following is the copy of the BGP's letter to PM of India.
26th May 2014.
Shri Narendra Modi,
Hon’ble Prime Minister of India,
South Block,
NEW DELHI 110 001
Respected Modi jee,
Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, an umbrella body of the twelve million Nepali speaking Indian Gorkhas living across the Country join me in felicitating you on your taking over today as the 15th Prime Minister of the Nation. We pray to God almighty to grant you good health and long life to carry on His Mission here in this land. Your motto of SAB KE SATH SAB KE VIKASH has indeed been a rallying point for all religious and linguistic minority groups in this country.
Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, a national umbrella organization of Gorkhas, having its Branches in 22 States of India is committed to the vision of a Gorkha society in India, recognized and accepted as a dignified, cultured and patriotic society at par with any other civilized modern Indian Society enjoying the full rights and privileges enshrined in the Indian Constitution.
Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh takes pride in installing a statue of Saheed Durga Malla, a Gorkha freedom fighter at the precincts of the Parliament House in the year 2004 as a reminder to the Nation that Gorkhas have given their blood to gain freedom for our nation.
The Gorkhas across the nation were delighted when you made a declaration in one of your election rallies that the dream of Gorkhas is your dream and we trust that God has now placed you in that position to help fulfilling that dream of Gorkhas. The following are the seven-point charter of issues, reiterated at every triennial Convention of the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh, which have not received due attention from the Union Government in the past. We, therefore urge upon you to examine these seven-point charter of issues to guarantee national identity and the political security to 15 million Gorkhas in India.
1. Creation of a separate state for the Gorkhas of India
2. Identification of the problems of tea garden and cinchona plantation in Darjeeling-Dooars as a national problem
3. Addressing the sense of insecurity and uncertainty in the minds of Gorkhas of Northeast India
4. Commissioning of a Doordarshan channel dedicated to the Nepali-speaking Gorkhas
5. Accessing for Gorkhas all social benefits under Constitutional provisions like SC, ST, OBC, etc, in all parts of India and nomination of Gorkhas to public and government bodies
6. Recognition of Gorkhas as a linguistic minority community
7. Empowering the Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh to issue certificates for the purpose of recruitment to the armed forces
Yours sincerely,
Rev. Dr. Enos Das Pradhan
