Talking to reporters at the party office in Mirik today, the Hill TMC president Rajen Mukhiya said to bring development in the hills it is important to bring peace and democracy. “The party will form tea workers union at each end every village in the hills. On the issue related to panchayat elections, Mukhia said the TMC is looking to conduct two-tier panchayat elections, while GJM is advocating three-tire elections. “The conflict should be resolved. TMC and GJM should sit together and have a detailed discussion on this. If the panchayat elections are not conducted at the earliest, the common people living across the hills will be barred from getting the benefits. Panchayat system enables people to get the various benefits being provided by the central and state government schemes, but without the election these schemes would not reach the villages and other places,” the Hill TMC leader explained.

Mukhia informed the Rural Household Survey for many panchayat areas are being conducted, but alleged only the name of rich or influential people feature in the RHS list and demanded an inquiry into it. On the 100-day work scheme, he said, “There is rampant corruption going on the 100-day scheme work. Poor people put all their efforts to complete the work assigned to them under the scheme, but they do not even get the daily wages they deserve. In fact the work supervisors and GJM leadership are the ones who are gaining profits,” he alleged and demanded a strict inquiry into it.

He also alleged corruption within the Mirik Municipality and demanded social audit on the officials. “We will submit a deputation to the municipality demanding details about the Indira Awas Youjana. Further, a deputation on the supply tender process of the 100-day work will be submitted to GTA secretary RD Meena,” Mukhia added.

He further informed a party delegation will be heading to Kolkatta to attend a meeting with TMC president and CM Mamata Banerjee on May 30, following which the Hill TMC will start district and block-level activities related to the developmental works.
