Kurseong: As informed by Mr. Vinod Praksh Sharma, one of the senior & dedicated member of Gorkha Jana Pustakalaya, on 8th June’2014 it is celebrating its foundation day and in this occasion, the Gorkha Jana Pustakalaya (Gorkha Library) is organising blood donation camp. Although the Pustakalaya is more into promoting and keeping alive the NEPALI SAHITYA, this time they are entering into social activities. This step is very much appreciated and is a noble cause which will definitely contribute to our society. In coming future hopefully the Pustakalaya will organise more events.
Every conscious citizen of Kurseong should come forward for this noble cause and let’s make this event a success by putting all our good effort.
Gorkha Jana Pustakalaya: Popularly known as Gorkha Library was established on June 8th 1913. The founder of this library Shri Jombey Paul started this library in a small study room. The library is now a study centre for academic excellence in Nepali language and literature. It has a rich history of enlightening Gorkha Masses about social, political, cultural and linguistic rights with the sole purpose of preserving one’s “Gorkha Identity”. The library is located at the heart of the town with residential facility for those who wish to do research in Nepali language and literature with a collection of more than 30,000 books.
Hill Tourism Development Association Kurseong, has decided to promote the Gorkha Jana Pustakalaya as one of the tourist interest point in Kurseong. In the view of the association, the Pustakalaya can be a great interest to the tourists who want to know about cultures, traditional and history of the Gorkhas.
