A leopard cub was rescued from Section No.8 of Kalchini Tea Garden this morning. The cub was found by some workers when they reached the section to start work in the morning and informed the management. General Manager BK Pradhan said he informed the area forest department, which rescued the 20-25-day-old leopard cub.
Forest ranger Bhawen Rishi said after conducting a check-up they released the cub back at the same spot where they had found it. He informed a leopard was raising a cub at an abandoned drainage nearby and if the cub is not found, its mother could start prowling the village. “Hence, it is important to release the cub as soon as possible at the exact site. This is good for the cub as well as for the safety of the locals,” he added.
Lauding the workers and forest department for rescuing the cub, BK Pradhan said it is the responsibility of every citizen to understand the importance of wildlife conservation. He also informed about 20 houses under Kalchini have been damaged by yesterday’s thunder and hailstorm. “The management is providing all possible help to the affected people,” he added.
