CPRM observed ‘Shaheed Diwas’ across hill tea gardens

The Communist Party (Revolutionary) Marxist  (CPRM) today observed ‘Shaheed Diwas’ across several tea gardens of the hills in memory of the six garden workers who were killed during a workers’ agitation on June 25, 1955 at Margaret’s Hope tea estate.

CPRM spokesperson Govind Chettri said six workers including an expectant mother died that fateful day. Informing about the party’s future programmes, he said several initiatives have been taken to underscore a number of political and social issues. Besides, a reshuffle of party committees in ongoing, he informed.

Chettri added the CPRM will soon press for the land rights of the residents of forest villages, tea gardens and cinchona plantations. The party will also stage various campaigns and submit deputations to the authorities demanding 33 per cent reservation for women.
