In Chamoong T.E Mr. Puran Rai and his family were saved by a whisker when his house was swept away by a landslide. Thanks to a loud sound they heard before the landslide hit, the family got just barely enough time to get out of the house on time, before landslide struck.

Sadly they family could not salvage or retrieve anything, and are currently put up at the tea garden Godown. In addition to the Rai family, the houses belonging to 9 more families have been damaged partially.

In lower Pragati Gram area near Darjeeling town area, insistent rain has caused landslide to occur and there is fear that the entire village consisting of around 50 families might be in danger if immediate actions are not taken to stop the landslide from growing.

In Rimbik area the rain for the past four days have cause streams to swell up and can cause widespread damage if something is not done immediately.

Mountain rivulets such as Fedi khola, Dilpa Khola, Mung Mung Khola have all started to look like small rivers and not mountain streams. Due to the increased water flow, both people and small vehicles are unable to cross the streams and are facing a lot of problems.

We hope the GTA administration and the National Disaster Relief Organization will take immediate actions to prevent loss of life and property.
