The Siliguri finale of the state-wide beauty contest’s (PC Chandra Goldlites Diva in association with t2, in Siliguri) second edition was held at Hotel Bengal International. Gorkha's daughter Chetna Rai of Salesian College, Siliguri, won the contest. Another Gorkhali Anisha Tamang of St. Joseph’s College (North Point) was the first runner-up and Neha Parween of Darjeeling Government College was the second runner-up.
Nineteen participants were selected from 57 applicants from colleges in Siliguri, Jalpaiguri and Darjeeling. Groomed by model and fashion choreographer Nicola Gomes, 10 were chosen from the 19 after Western and Indian wear rounds. Tollywood actress and model Ritabhari Chakraborty, Amber Banerjee, senior officer (communications) of PC Chandra Jewellers and Gomes judged the contest. “Last year, the contest was limited to Calcutta. This year, we have included 80 colleges from across the state. We are looking for a perfect combination of beauty and brains to represent the brand,” Banerjee said. From the 10 finalists, five were chosen for a talent round and later, three faced judges’ questions after which, the winners were declared. The winner got a voucher of Rs 5,000 and the first and second runners-ups got vouchers of Rs 2,000 and Rs 1,000, respectively.
