The Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) Sabha has decided to transfer four employees, three of them singers and the other a Group-D employee, of the information and cultural affairs department from Darjeeling to Kurseong for not turning up for a clean drive led by hill body’s chief Bimal Gurung yesterday.
Gurung and Darjeeling MP S.S. Ahluwalia had yesterday launched the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan, a national drive for cleanliness, from Chowrasta, where Gurung had said that he wanted the GTA to be a model for the campaign in Bengal. Today, Gurung came to the Mall and was seen cleaning the areas near the Gorkha Rangamanch Bhavan along with GTA employees till around 4pm.
The three singers of the cultural affairs department who will be transferred are Remu Pakhrin, Rupa Lama and Lalita Rai.
The fourth person to be transferred to Kurseong is Pema Bhutia, a Group-D employee.
Binay Tamang, the executive GTA Sabha member in-charge of the information and broadcast department, said: “The GTA has decided to transfer four staff members of the information and cultural affairs department from Darjeeling to Kurseong as they failed to participate in the Swacch Bharat Abhiyan.”
